Hi, my name is Karol Knowles, I’m a Midwife  and Child Health Nurse and have been a qualified IBCLC since 1990.

I work part time for Ngala, as a Child Health Nurse, mainly on the Helpline providing parenting information. I also work  as a Child Health Nurse for the Health Department in the casual relief pool for the North Metro area.

As one of the founding members of the College, I have enjoyed the companionship and networking over the years and I’m excited to be the president in this, our 10th anniversary year!

Even though Lactation Consultants are increasing in numbers, I would still love to see more, so that families who need or want the support of a Lactation Consultant are able to access one easily, and in a timely manner.

I am married and have 3 lovely teenage children and a very supportive husband. They have all been well educated in the importance of breast milk and breastfeeding and ensure I am alerted to anything they see or hear in the media to do with feeding!

Shaughn Leach - Website Coordinator

I have had a number of positions on the committee of CLCWA over the past ten years.  The committee works in a collegial and friendly manner which makes being a part of the team extremely rewarding. 

I sat the IBLCE in 1989 after having spent many years as a Nursing Mothers Association of Australia Breastfeeding Counsellor.  My original tertiary qualification was as a primary school teacher which has been very useful in my role as a Lactation educator however I decided to extend my qualifications by returning to university in 2002 and completing a BSc (Nsg) followed by a PGDip in Midwifery.   My paid work is varied and currently I am working at the Breastfeeding Centre as a Lactation Consultant.  

I have three adult children; 2 daughters aged 28 and 25 and a son aged 23.  I can also boast one granddaughter :) One of my great joys is seeing them all together with their partners around our dinner table. Our family has grown from 5 to 9
